Buying a home in Puerto Rico: the deed and the notary

A real estate sale in Puerto Rico is formalized in a public deed. The notary attends to the form of the act. The practice also handles a real estate matter when that is what is requested.

Outline

  1. The deed

It identifies the parties, the property, and the terms they agree. It is not a generic form.

  2. Registry and liens

Mortgage, cancellations, and the registry status are reviewed according to the matter. Each property has its own file.

  3. The next step

To schedule, say the municipality and whether the signing will be at the office or elsewhere.
